🔧 Optional tools & materials:

  • Combination wrench set
  • Socket wrench set
  • Cable ties
  • TESA PET-fleece fabric tape 51608

⚠️ Important notes before installation:

  • All work is carried out at your own risk.
  • The front wheels of the vehicle must be in a straight position.
  • When working on the air suspension, compressed air will escape — proceed with caution.
  • Install the box only when jack mode is activated.

Estimated time: approx. 60–90 minutes
Difficulty level: Medium

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1 – Activate jack mode

In the MMI: go to Menu → Car → Systems → Service & Checks → Air Suspension: Wheel Change → ON.

Step 2 – Positioning the Dropbox

1. Find a suitable spot in the trunk (varies depending on vehicle equipment).

- Recommendation: behind the right or left side panel.

2. Secure the Dropbox, e.g. with cable ties.

- IMPORTANT: The side air vents must remain unobstructed and uncovered.

Step 3 – Connect power supply

1. Connect the red cable (+) to the positive terminal of the battery:

- Either screw it directly to the positive terminal,

- or insert it into the black fuse box at the positive terminal.

 2. Connect the black cable (–) to ground, e.g.:

- At the screw point behind the battery on the black cover plate.

3. The Dropbox is now ready for use.

- Test: Press the button on the remote → you should hear the valves click.

Step 4 – Connect air lines

There are two options:

- Option 1 – With hose cutting

  1. Cut the original air lines before the valve block using a hose cutter (Caution: air will escape).
  2. Insert T-connectors.
  3. Route new air lines from there to the Dropbox.

- Option 2 – Without hose cutting (with additional block)

  1. Unscrew the original air lines from the valve block (Caution: air will escape).
  2. Screw these original lines into the additional block (apply 1–2 drops of thread sealant).
  3. Find a suitable location for the additional block (e.g. under the subwoofer).
  4. Screw the threaded fittings of the new supplied air lines into the original valve block (again with thread sealant).
  5. Route new air lines from the original valve block to the additional block, cut to fit, and connect them to the push-in fittings.
  6. Route additional air lines from the second side of the fittings on the additional block to the Dropbox.

Step 5 – Check for leaks & start-up

  1. Allow the thread sealant to cure for approx. 1 hour.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Deactivate Air Suspension: Wheel Change in the MMI.
  4. Check all connections in the trunk — they must be airtight.
  5. The compressor will start, and the vehicle will return to driving height.
  6. The warning message on the dashboard will disappear once the normal ride height is restored.

Operating the Dropbox

  • Short press on the remote → valves open → vehicle lowers.
  • After a preset time, the valves close automatically.
  • Einstellbare Zeitspanne:
    • The adjustable time interval can be set on top of the Dropbox using a small Phillips screwdriver through the adjustment hole.
    • Turn clockwise → longer opening time.
    • Note: Once you start driving, the vehicle automatically raises back to normal ride height.
